Step 1
In the Buddha Image Hall, bring the lotus flower to worship the Buddha Image, relics of the Buddha, and relics of Arahant. Then make merit and an offering to the Birthday Buddha Image, which is believed to expel bad fortune and bring stability in life.
In addition, there is the fortune Buddha, which is believed to be holy and accurate. How to ask for your fortune: Concentrate and pray. Chant Namo 3 times. Think of the Triple Gems and the holy artifacts in the City Pillar Shrine by raising the fortune Buddha. The 1st raising: Pray and if the matter will be successful, the Buddha image should be able to be lifted up. The 2nd raising: Pray for the same thing and if the matter will be successful, the Buddha Image should not be able to be lifted up.
Step 2
In the replica of the City Pillar, light the candle and incense. Place the incense and tie the 3 pieces of silk fabric around one of the replicas of the City Pillar. Then gild the gold leaf.
Step 3
In the City Pillar Shrine, offer the floral garland to the City Pillar Buddha that is enshrined together. For Rama I’s City Pillar, the top of the pillar is lotus-shaped (tall). For Rama IV’s City Pillar, the top of the pillar is Met Song Man - shaped (plump).
Step 4
In the Five Guardian Spirits Shrine, offer the floral garland to the Five Guardian Spirits, which are Phra Suea Mueang, Phra Song Mueang, Phra Kanchaisi, Chao Chettakup, and Chao Ho Klong. The Five Guardian Spirits will protect the country from politics, administration, enemies of the King or country, and from disasters to the country for good order and peace.
Step 5
The point to fill the vegetable oil to the Birthday Buddha Image lamp. The tradition of The City Pillar Shrine is to fill the vegetable oil to the Birthday Buddha Image lamp half full to brighten your life, full with prosperity. The remaining half will be filled at the last lamp to expel bad fortune, suffering, and disease from oneself. Filling of the oil lamp of the Birthday Buddha is the last step in worshipping the holy artifacts in the City Pillar Shrine.
The City Pillar Shrine contains sacred objects that were created for persons with faith to worship. There were also daily shows and Traditional Thai dances to fulfil the vows and for good fortune.
The Fine Arts Department registered The City Pillar Shrine as a historical site on B.E. 21st May 2518 (1975). The importance of this historic site is not only in terms of history, but it is also the true center of the mind for all Thai people.
The 21st of April every year is the Establishment Day of The Bangkok City Pillar Shrine. There will be a ceremony to worship and give offerings according to Brahmin tradition also.
The City Pillar Shrine is open daily for service from 06.30-18.30 and open all night on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and Chinese New Year.
