Chao Ho Klong

A gilded bronze statue that wears "Yod Chai" crown on head and stands on an octagon pedestal. The hand is raised to the chest. The right hand holds a lotus which symbolizes earth (land). The left hand holds an animal horn used to call troops to duty according to tradition practiced in ancient times. Chao Ho Klong was the God of Belfry who took care of incidents that occurred on land. For example: Looking after dawn, dusk, and midnight, or when there was fire or enemy invasion near the capital. King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke (Rama I) issued a royal command to build the city belfry near the Grand Palace around Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram. Inside the belfry, there are 3 big drums, which are Klong Phra Suri Si, Klong Akkhi Phikhat in case of fire, and Klong Phikhat Phairi in case of war.
